Building a new home can be one of the biggest decisions you’ll ever make, and getting started can seem daunting. At Forest Park, we want to make your experience as stress free and enjoyable as possible.  We've put together a simple checklist to give you an overview of the process.  So, let’s get started and make your dream home a reality in Forest Park.

Step 1: Let's Get Started

Establish Needs and Wants
  • Review your current living situation

  • Determine the reasons why you might want to move

  • Establish desired rooms, minimum requirements, and specifications needed

Personalize Your Home
Lay the Ground Work

What you need to do

  • Schedule your loan appointment

  • Schedule your Studio appointment

What Forest Park will do

  • Apply for building permit

  • Locate property corners

  • Prepare lot for foundation

  • Order building materials

Finalize Your Mortgage
  • Your new home plays a central role in your life and because your home is one of the biggest financial investments you will make.

Step 2: Design

Schedule Your Studio Appointment

What you need to do​

What Forest Park will do

  • Schedule pre-construction meeting

  • Set foundation forms

  • Install underground plumbing

  • Prepare foundation

  • Place foundation

  • Rough grade

  • Pre-construction inspection

Step 3: Build


What you need to do

  • Meet with your builder and sales counselor to review options, blueprints and home site.

What Forest Park will do

  • Carpentry frame & roof install

  • Rough mechanical systems install

  • Insulation 

  • Install tape, bed & texture drywall

  • Trim carpentry and paint

  • Cabinets, vanity tops, ceramic tile & counter install

  • Exterior finish & hard surface flooring install

  • Mechanical fixtures & utility connections install

  • Carpet, hardware, mirror & shower enclosures

  • Cleaning and touch-up work


What you need to do

  • Secure homeowners insurance

  • Verify that loan documents and requirements are complete

What Forest Park will do

  • Gas and electric meters installed

  • Landscaping installed (weather permitting)

  • Quality inspection 

  • Final city inspection (where applicable)

  • Mortgage inspections

  • Quality inspection list completed

Step 4: Move-In

Pre-closing Orientation
  • Your sales counselor and builder formally introduce you to your new home.

  • This is our chance to orientate you to your new home.


What you need to do

  • Close with our recommended attorney or title company

  • Sign all papers

  • Once loan funds, go to sales office and pick up your keys!

  • New Home Orientation

  • Ensure home is 100% complete to customer’s satisfaction
